What a lovely perfect fun venue – in Battersea London. I met Albert (who helped organised the Rainforest gig David did in 2006) and he told me he’d suggested David played here at the grand piano on this acoustic night. PICS! With the orange lights (which made David's hair look ginger!) and the fancy candelabra on the piano - the light was confusing for my camera though!
Wonderful to see David headlining such a classy fun gig & venue! Floating on the pure and honest passion of David’s voice, I get lost in his voice.
David - 'honest passions'
**Surprisingly the venue is not upstairs or down in the basement, but on the main floor. In fact the grand piano is set in the corner window, on a roomy stage with a large candelabra on top. All very classy and a perfect setting for David’s music I feel instantly. The sun is streaming in the large open windows to the street, and the venue has a spacious ambience with roomy dark sofa chairs and low wooden tables.
Our host for the Acoustic evening is a smooth talking singer songwriter from Florida - Mark Aaron , who sang some fun upbeat songs. I was also charmed by Susan Fiering – a jazz guitarist from Nashville – a lovely lady over to play the Birmingham Jazz festival and I enjoyed her songs.
Tara London also performed – a pretty and soulful singer.
David and Jay backed Dave G’s set. This is the strongest I’ve seen him perform – projecting well with his expressive and sincere voice and his memorable songs. ‘Sirens’ appears a favourite and is often stuck in my head. I hear David’s Beatles influences mixed with Dave’s soulful voice.
David managed 'White Noise' perfectly this time – and had obviously been rehearsing. Great to hear it back in the set - a popular and top song.
He sang Little Houses, Scars, NoOne and White Noise. It was so good to be able to see him playing piano compared to the keyboards. I find his piano as moving as his voice, the two in perfect sync.
In 2006 and 2007, he was squeezed between other performers, so it is good to see him headlining gigs this year.
As headliner David, I wish you would/could treat us to one extra song on the second set……
David says he has a Plan – to do another full set again. I live in hopes! - with the ‘White Noise’ EP at No 2 and No 3 in the chart this week AGAIN (been there the last 6 months!) I hope it brings a smile to David's face!
Glad you were able to chase away the demons David- your voice, piano and songs were so good. Lovely, fun set and venue. Just too short as usual. David really gets it, does enough while not over doing it. His performance is classic.
Thanks. Paulinex
I met 2 musicians as I was leaving, who’d come to check out the venue. - and they commented what ‘quality artists’ had been performing that night – very true! Sorry for delay with my report.
The Halo Bar
Dave Gibson ‘the Sincere Dreamer’
He has picked up his game and gave a top performance at the Halo Bar.
Dave is great to get photos of, which tells me a lot about him as an artist . He was in better light and I have some excellent ones below of him.
Musically it makes sense to me David’s working with Dave. I hear David’s Beatles influences mixed with Dave’s soulful voice. The new songs they have writing together have been getting good responses.
I enjoy I Could Say and Jazz Tune - while I would like Dave to take the verse down a bit, with more of the music's dynamics & mood – in John Mayer style maybe, who does the soul voice so perfectly.
