15th November 2003
The weather was cold but dry. I met Mary at Central Station Glasgow, and we headed off in amongst the array of orange Dutch supporters to get our train. On the way I passed my 14 year-old son sitting with friends at the side of the platform, very odd. We both wondered what the other was doing there!
Unfortunately there was not much of a station at Mount Florida so we didn’t meet anyone there, but when we got to ToryGlen park there were the David fans lined up in front of the stage, and it was great to meet everyone. After a few games with the Clyde 1 roadshow, we saw David’s keyboards coming centre stage. Then David came out draped in the Scottish flag.
He started with Follow me, but then stopped for some reason and said, ‘ Oh you lot know the words!’ Then he sang ‘Don’t let Go’ and got into the chorus, when he started to laugh – not sure what that was about, but I think it had something to do with some footballer not letting go!! It was pure Sneddon humour and great to see him having a good laugh! In fact he couldn’t stop laughing! A few footballers were heckling of course. Then he sang ‘Stop Living The Lie. It was a rather bazaar and casual performance, and he said he would put on a better show at Paisley later on.
When we made our way to the Clyde1 stage in Paisley, we found it rather congested! There was a crowd of maybe a thousand and the whole area was jammed. We managed to squeeze ourselves in from the side to get a fairly good position though. There was a big crush of teenagers at the front. After some dancing with Suzie to the usual pop stuff ,and many announcements of David – he came out in a black top now, and still smiling. His hair is longer now, and he has too much charm and charisma to be backstage.
There were several press photos and then he spoke to some children and Suzie. There were more photos and then David sat down to sing. He got a tremendous reception! Wow! His singing was wonderful. He sang DLG and SLTL AGAIN! His performance was very short but well worth the trip for. So hope very, very much that I will see him perform again in Glasgow and not in the too distant future. David was thrilled to announce that Scotland had just beaten Holland!!
We waited in the hope of seeing him after, but there was quite a big crowd. He did come out and sign a few autographs, but then he left. I had a letter for him so I was glad to see his parents who were standing behind us. I spoke to his mum and she seemed really nice. I gave her my letter and said we would support David whatever he decides for the future. I said I couldn’t believe it was six months since I saw David at the Garage and I hoped he would be able to do more gigs in Glasgow now. We finished up at the Last Post again which is a lovely old, large bar/restaurant. It was great to share thoughts with like minded fans face to face. Rather weird that we know each other really well and yet not know each other at all! Lovely to meet everyone. Great long day, and my minds has completely gone. What a smile David has.
Report Pailey Express
Paisley's favourite musical son made an emotional return to his hometown on Saturday for the formal launch of the festive season. Thousands turned out on Saturday to see David Sneddon join Provost Ronnie Burns in switching on Paisley's Christmas lights.
PAISLEY star David Sneddon dazzled thousands of his screaming fans when he switched on the town's Christmas lights. Crowds of people packed the High Street to welcome the Fame Academy winner back to his home turf.
He delighted the massive crowd by slipping onto his piano stool and belting out two of his biggest hits Stop Living The Lie and Don't Let Go. Devoted fans had travelled from as far afield as Wales, Scarborough and Leeds. And one gang of girls waved a sign at the star which read: "We've come 240 miles to see you! Can we meet you?"
Groups of adoring girls sobbed and screamed hysterically as David burst onto the stage during the festive celebrations and yelled: "Hello Paisley it's fantastic to be here." And he added incredulously: "I can't believe so many of you have come to see me."
