We made our way to the venue. The stage, which looked like a large kind of marquee, was being lit up, and decorative owls sat in blue- illuminated trees which decorated the sides of the stage.
We thought the keyboard might be moved centre-stage for his performance but it was kept at the side and we realised we were in the wrong place to see David, so we moved slowly and gradually to the middle and stood behind some small children, and had a great view. David played 3 songs, Don't Let Go, Northern Lights, White Noise. And then left - but Tony called him back before he had gone offstage and said he would do an encore.
He sang Stop Living the Lie, which sounded great. Later he said he hadn't rehearsed that song and didn't know he would be doing it but it just felt right to sing it somehow. It certainly went down well with the crowd, his voice soaring right to the end of the street and back again !! He'd been so cold on stage that he couldn't feel his fingers hitting the keys and I think that must have worried him enormously.
Afterwards he came out and joined us and we stayed and talked till the Harry Potter girl switched on the lights. He really enjoyed it and we watched the fireworks, which were set off right on the top of the stage, and fake snow billowed about. The shops were all lit up with very tasteful white lights and to be honest, it all looked very Christmassy and magical.
